2011 Summit Series

A Movement on the MOVE!
The summer of 2011 will go down in infamy as the summer of OUTDOOR NATION. From June to August, New York to San Francisco, we traveled around the nation getting young people together to talk about how to get their peers outside. Actually, not only did we talk about making our generation healthier and more active, we did something about it.

First, we had to decide on our outdoor rights and responsibilities. So, using super cool interactive technology and the principles of democracy, we voted on and created the first-ever youth-authored National Youth Bill Outdoor Rights and Responsibilities. We’re pretty proud of this, so we listed the rights and responsibilities below.

Because we believe in action, us Outsiders then came up with project ideas that would help solve America’s top outdoor issues. Whether that is access to information, or the need to learn how to have fun outdoors, or no safe places nearby, or whatever, we got all of our creative ideas together and came up with workable solutions. Then, the Outdoor Foundation supported us with grant money, training and really everything we needed to get the job done.

When it was all said and done (well, it’s never really done), more than one thousand of us rallied together during five Regional Youth Summits to help get America outside. And, with amazing talent and incredible passion, we’re continuing the momentum through various youth-led projects, initiatives and, yes, another awesome series of Summits!

Make sure you check out the awesome, youth-led projects that are going on now because of Outdoor Nation. Hold onto your hats, our movement is on the move!

P.S. One more thing - you've got to check out the awesome 2011 Summit video in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. You will not regret it!
