We’re spreading love for the outdoors though our newest program – Outdoor Nation Campus Clubs! With help from our generous partners (thank you, partners!), the Campus Clubs program is introducing the masses to the Great Outdoors. This national program takes those already awesome outdoor clubs on college campuses – and wah-la! – transforms them into even more awesome, more impactful outdoor hubs.
So, how does the Campus Clubs program really operate?
Here’s the deal. College students from existing outdoor clubs mentor their high school and university-aged peers. Mentors introduce mentees to unforgettable outdoor opportunities and help them create clubs of their very own. Think regular meetings, outdoor excursions, outdoor service projects, group outings and more!
In return, college mentors get financial incentives, leadership training, gear donations and program support. Lead mentors – we call them “Outdoor Nation Fellows” – get even more leadership training and some dough for all their great work. Sweet deal, eh?
Pilot Communities
Campus Clubs has kicked off in two lucky communities, including Washington, DC and Atlanta. In our Nation’s Capital, Georgetown University has teamed up with Howard University and Groundwork Anacostia. In Atlanta, Georgia Tech has stepped up to work with Atwood Community Gardens, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and Spelman College. Speaking of, check out the DC Campus Club's kayaking trip down the Potomac River and the Atlanta Campus Club's Leadership Challenge Course.
